    Ioppa

    Ioppa Nebbiolo Rusin Colline Novaresi Rose 2016

    $ 13.99

    Azienda Agricola Ioppa is a 7th generation winery established in 1852 in the village of Romagnano Sesia, on the banks of the Sesia River. Michelangelo Ioppa originally purchased  the best vineyard land in the local hills (including Balsina vineyards), still grown nowadays.  With a stunning view of Mount Rosa from the winery, it's almost impossible to forget that the Alps play a major role in the climate and soils that make Ghemme one of the most unique terroirs in Italy.

    The soils are composed of granite, quartz, and iron left behind from the retreat of the Mount Rosa glacier at the end of the last Ice Age. Further erosion of the Alps and the granite infused sands were moved by the Sesia river. Ghemme is mostly composed of alluvial soils but has one large plateau above the river where the soils are more firm and are a mix of hard clay and mineral rocks of iron and quartz.

    Ghemme Wine DOCG (Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin) and Colline Novaresi Wines DOC (Controlled Designation of Origin) are produced all over the area shared by Romagnano Sesia and Ghemme. In 2003 the Winery moved to its current location among vineyards in Frazione Mauletta, a hilly hamlet on the outskirts of Romagnano Sesia.
