Bootlegger
Rum-running (smuggling across sea) or bootlegging (smuggling across land) was rampant during the prohibition era. New York City became a haven for speakeasies which sold illegal booze. Whether it was un-aged corn whiskey (moonshine), bathtub gin, Caribbean rum or Kentucky bourbon, this time was the golden age for experimentation and innovation. Over the last decade in NYC, we have seen a resurgence of this old school era, from the ambiance in our local bars to the style and ingredients of the spirits themselves.
So with this month's MashBox, we ask you to sit back, put on some jazz and sip on these fine spirits which will transport you to a time that is now lost, but never forgotten.
