    Sia

    Sia Blended Scotch

    91WE
    $ 49.99

    Two words. Crowd-funded Whiskey. (Or is that three? Never Mind.)

    Sia is every whiskey lover's dream come true. Let us explain why. See, if you're reading this you probably like whiskey. You are here, so you have good taste. And you are probably the one in your friend circle introducing others to new whiskies. Now wouldn't it be awesome if you could take all that passion, knowledge and taste and start your own whiskey? Yep, we feel the same way. And that's exactly what Carin Luna-Ostaseski, a San Francisco woman who loves Whiskey, did. Except in her case, she loved Whisky, without the 'e'. She took her 10 year long love affair with Scotch, went on Kickstarter.com and got 245 other people to back her idea for a beautiful blended Scotch. (We are conveniently skipping over the grueling hours spent researching, cold calling, form filling, call waiting, running around, TTB chasing, importer dealing, and what not.)

    We tip our hat to the dedication and passion that led to this beautiful product seeing the light of the day. Despite the modern take on the financing, the passion to create the project is very old fashioned, as I'm sure a lot of famous distillers will attest to. Now, on to the whisky:

    A blend of Speyside, Highland and Islay malt and grain whiskies, SIA received 91 points from Wine Enthusiast and an “Outstanding” rating from Whisky Advocate Magazine.

    Professional Tasting Note #1: The color of this whisky is deep gold with yellow highlights. The nose is fresh and malty, with a bit of banana and fruit cake. The palate is well balanced with just the right amount of smokiness combined with a pear drop sweetness. The finish is long, smooth and refreshing.

    Professional Tasting Notes #2: Nose: opens with toffee and spices, developing to a fresh citrusy quality before a liquorice character appears. Taste: initially, discover a sweet, ripe fruit quality running to more toffee plus a distinct vanilla style. Finish: the finish remains vanilla’d carrying a round and well balanced sweet & spicy quality.
